West leads cross country at Connecticut College Invitational

WATERFORD, Conn. -- Senior Sarah West led the way for the Mount Holyoke cross country team Saturday as the Lyons competed at the massive Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, finishing 27th out of 33 teams in the 6K Women's White Race.

Mount Holyoke's 680 points had the Lyons close behind 26th-place Hartford (667) and 25th-place Keene State (667), and ahead of Marywood (793), Clark (796), Dickinson (814), Ithaca (840), Smith (873), and Houghton (899).

West (Concord, N.H.) finished the 6K race course at Harkness State Park in 24:43.5, 126th-fastest in a field of 354 runners.

Senior captain Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) ran second for Mount Holyoke, 172nd overall in 25:14.9. Sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) was close behind in 177th (25:19.7). Junior captain Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) placed 186th (25:23.1) and first-year Nina Kuzichev (Washington, D.C.) placed 209th (25:53.4) to round out the Lyons' scoring. First-year Elodie Muller (Byfield, Mass.), first-year Marin Lambert (Bothell, Wash.), and senior Tess Marini-Rapoport (Northampton, Mass.) followed in 258th (26:53.7), 259th (26:54.5), and 260th (26:55.1), respectively.

The race was Mount Holyoke's final one before the NEWMAC Championships, which take place at 12pm on Nov. 1 at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass., hosted by Wheaton College.
