Cross Country Finishes Ninth in NEWMAC Championship

NORTHAMPTON, MASS - The Mount Holyoke College cross country team raced to a ninth-place finish at the 2016 NEWMAC Championship, hosted by Smith College. The Lyons posted a total of 272 points, edging out Emerson, while finishing behind Springfield.

Winning this year's title was MIT, who saw each of their seven team competitors finish in the top nine, compiling 15 points overall. Wellesley was second (69), followed by Coast Guard (89), Smith (139), and WPI (141) to round out the top five..

First year Alicia Moroyoqui (Groton, Conn.Robert E. Fitch) paced the Mount Holyoke effort on Saturday, finishing 42nd overall with a time of 21:11. Sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative) crossed the line in a time of 21:18, which was good for 51st overall.

First year Brigit Wolf (New Providence, N.J./Union County Magnet) ran to 56th on the afternoon, posting a time of 21:32, while junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Driends) finished right on her hip, also posting a time of 21:32.

First year Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was 66th with a time of 222:06, while fellow classmate Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional) finished just behind in 67th, crossing the line in a time of 22:09.

Rounding out the team placings was junior Julia Criscione (Benardsville, N.J./Villa Walsh Academy) who was 73rd on the day with a time of 22:36. Other finishes for the Lyons included first year Michelle Serrano (Los Angeles, Calif./West Adams Preparatory) and sophomore Emsie Cronin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) , who places 107th (23:07) and 109th (23:14), respectively. First year Caitlin Lynch (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) rounded out the group in a time of 25:24, good for 126th.

This year's individual championship was won by MIT first year Megan McCandless, who posted a time of 18:17 to beat out her teammate Mary Eccles' time of 18:41.
