POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday evening at Vassar College, defeating Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 26-24), before meeting the host Brewers in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18) defeat.
The Lyons (4-3) stay at Vassar to play SUNY Delhi on Saturday at 1pm.
Mount Holyoke 3, Mt. St. Mary 0 (BOX)
The Lyons won their third straight match and the Knights dropped to 1-6 as Mount Holyoke swept three sets from Mount Saint Mary. The Lyons outhit the Knights by a .262 to .185 margin on the neutral floor.
Senior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) started off a big day with 13 kills and three errors on 23 swings (.435), to go with four service aces. First-year Elanni Romero (Nashua, N.H.) added a season-high 11 kills on 22 attempts (.409) with 10 digs for her first collegiate double-double. Senior Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) and sophomore Olivia Murray (Miami, Fla.) added nine and eight kills, respectively, in Mount Holyoke's most varied attack of the season.
Senior setter Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) totaled 38 assists for 12.7 per set.
Julianna Simone led the Knights with 12 kills on 32 attempts (.375).
Vassar 3, Mount Holyoke 0 (BOX)
The host Brewers rose to 6-1 by eking out a first-set win before largely controlling play in the second and third sets.
Holland Kaplan led Vassar with 11 kills and eight aces, with Maura McAusland adding nine kills and Rebecca Gutierrez putting down seven kills with no errors on 10 swings. Francesca Medrano had 37 assists and nine digs.
Rimando had five more aces in the match to go with a team-high seven kills. Barton added six kills and junior Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) had a team-high 10 digs. Mount Holyoke was limited to a -.012 attack percentage, compared to .198 for Vassar.
