AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior Elle Rimando had career highs in service aces (5) and digs (11), and tied with senior Madeline Barton with a match-high 12 kills, as the Mount Holyoke volleyball team played to a competitive 3-1 loss at Amherst College on Friday night.
The Lyons (1-2) fell by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-13, 25-22 to the Mammoths (1-1), who posted a .274 attack percentage for the match to -.024 for Mount Holyoke.
Amherst fielded 17 players in the match, and was led on the attack by Sofia Camilo's seven kills on 17 attempts (.353) and six kills on 11 attempts by Abby Nichols. Judith Subirats-Bosch had 27 assists.
Senior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 25 assists and seven digs for Mount Holyoke, while junior Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) had a match-high 21 digs, three aces, and a perfect serve reception percentage.
Mount Holyoke evened the match at 1-1 by coming back from 20-17 down to win the second set 25-22. The Lyons' 8-2 run featured two kills by sophomore Olivia Murray (Miami, Fla.), an ace and a kill by Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii), and an ace by Staples on set point. Murray had four of her six kills in the match in the second set.
Mount Holyoke will have little rest before playing two matches on Saturday at the University of Hartford, facing Fitchburg State at 1pm and Hartford at 4pm.
