    Fourth year head coach Sonnie Terrell guided the Mount Holyoke volleyball team to an overall record or 9-16 in 2011. The Lyons exploded out of the gate, winning seven of their first 11 matches. Later in the year, they topped Smith for the first time in a decade.
  • NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2011 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty-three Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

    Mount Holyoke fell 3-0 to nationally ranked Springfield this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. With their win, the Pride secured the top seed in next week’s NEWMAC Tournament. They entered the contest ranked 20th in the latest AVCA National Poll. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel led the Lyons with three kills and nine digs.

    Mount Holyoke puts the finishing touches on its home slate versus nationally ranked Springfield this evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred. S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons will be looking for their first win over the Pride since the 1984 season. They fell 3-0 to their NEWMAC counterparts last fall despite five kills apiece from outside hitters Martina Kneifel and Kathryn Brummer.

    First year Mollyanne Fitzpatrick has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of October 17-23 after leading the volleyball team to wins over Smith and Gordon. Over the course of the week, the setter averaged 5.33 assists and 2.47 digs per set. She was named to the 2011 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women's Invitational All-Tournament Team.

    The 2011 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women’s Invitational concluded with 16 matches today on the campuses of Mount Holyoke and Smith. Over the course of the weekend, 16 teams from around the region competed at the annual event. First year setter Mollyanne Fitzpatrick represented the Lyons on the All-Tournament Team. They fell to Westfield State and Colby today.

    The 2011 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women’s Invitational kicked off with eight matches this evening on the campuses of Mount Holyoke and Smith. Now in its 20th year, the tournament features 16 teams from around the region. The Lyons got their weekend started with a 3-1 triumph over Gordon. First year setter Mollyanne Fitzpatrick recorded her fifth double-double of the year to lead the way.

    Led by sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel, Mount Holyoke picked up a thrilling 3-2 triumph over longtime rival Smith this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. With their win, the Lyons snapped an eight-match slide. It was their first victory over the Pioneers since the 2001 season.

    Mount Holyoke sustained 3-0 setbacks to Vassar and Bryn Mawr during the second and final day of the 2011 Seven Sisters Championship at Wellesley. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel and first year defensive specialist Kaleen Iwema were named to the All-Tournament Team as a result of their outstanding performances over the course of the event.

    Mount Holyoke suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks on the opening day of the 2011 Seven Sisters Championship at Wellesley. After falling to Smith, the Lyons were upended by Wellesley. They will look to rebound tomorrow, when they close out the weekend with matches against Vassar and Bryn Mawr.

    Sophomore Martina Kneifel has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of September 26 - October 2 after leading the volleyball team to wins over Mills and Bay Path on Saturday. Kneifel amassed 2.80 kills and 2.00 digs per set in Mount Holyoke's three matches.

    Mount Holyoke fell 3-1 to Clark this evening in NEWMAC action at the Kneller Gymnasium. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel delivered 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the way for the Lyons. It was her third double-double of the year and the ninth of her career.

    Using a balanced attack, Mount Holyoke topped NEWMAC foe Wheaton this afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. After dropping the first set, the Lyons swept the next three to seal their first win over Wheaton since the 2006 season. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel recorded her eight career double-double.

    First year setter Alison Chu racked up 19 assists, 15 digs and three kills to lead Mount Holyoke to a 3-1 victory over MCLA this evening at the James T. Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium. Chu’s double-double was the second of her brief career.

After falling 3-0 to Daniel Webster, the Lyons rebounded with a 3-1 triumph over Saint Joseph. Martina Kneifel, Kathryn Brummer and Alison Chu turned in outstanding performances.

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team will enter the 2011 season with heightened expectations after breaking through for nine wins last fall. Fourth year head coach Sonnie Terrell has scheduled 25 matches for the Lyons, who will get things going with a tri-match at St. Joseph College on Saturday, September 10.
