Led by second year head coach Sonnie Terrell, the Mount Holyoke volleyball team registered an overall record of 4-22 in 2009. The rebuilding Lyons went winless in league play. They captured the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row.

Mount Holyoke posted three of its four wins over the first two weeks of the season. In addition to blanking Becker College twice, the Lyons also recorded a 3-1 triumph over Bay Path College. After handing Elms College a 3-0 setback, they dropped their final nine matches.

In addition to its always competitive NEWMAC slate, Mount Holyoke also hosted the annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Women's Invitational.

Leading the way for the Lyons was Kateryna Kuc, who dished out 4.67 assists per set. The junior setter collected 2.35 digs per set, 64 kills and a team best 36 service aces. Classmate Rosa Marruffo tallied 1.59 kills per set from the outside hitter position. Her 2.71 digs per set led the team, and she also racked up 35 service aces. First year Morgan Cooley's 1.72 kills per set were good for tops on the squad. The outside hitter tallied 1.75 digs per set along with 20 aces.

Mount Holyoke also received a boost from first year middle hitter Kathryn Brummer, who amassed 1.37 kills and 1.95 digs per set. Sophomore middle hitter Tyler Protano-Goodwin racked up a team best 23 blocks, while junior defensive specialist Kara Neidhardt added 2.28 digs per set.
