SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team hosted Wellesley College in its second home dual meet of the season on Saturday and delivered some strong swims despite being outscored 188-64 by the visiting Blue.
"Overall we swam pretty well," said head coach Dave Allen. "We had people in different events today to get some more times on off events and everyone stepped up and did a nice job."
Allen cited his three swimmers in the 400 individual medley -- junior Isabel Dunn (Harbor Springs, Mich.), first-year Katie Thomason (Alexandria, Va.), and junior Madeline Hood (The Colony, Texas) -- for their gritty efforts. "All of them swam tough events right before the IM and did a great job recovering and swimming strong IM's."
Other notable marks by the Lyons included:
- Dunn took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:33.79) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.37).
- First-year Evelyn Rousseau (Hudsonville, Mich.) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:15.48).
- First-year Maya Oakes (Pine Bush, N.Y.) took second place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.57) and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.94).
- Thomason took fourth place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:58.21) and also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:12.74).
- Hood placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.43).
Mount Holyoke will next compete at the RIT Invitational Dec. 5-6 in Rochester, N.Y.
