Squash Splits Matches with Smith and Vassar in Sisters Invitational

South Hadley, Mass. - February 19, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team split a pair of games this past weekend as part of the Seven Sisters Tournament. The Lyons defeated Smith, 9-0, before falling to Vassar 4-5 on Saturday.

Against Smith, at No. 1 senior Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) cruised to a 11-2, 11-1, 11-2 win over Elizabeth Hillier. Slotted at No. 2, sophomore Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) claimed a 11-8, 11-3, 11-5 victory over Naimah John-Charles, while senior Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a 11-0, 11-4, 11-7 win over Amrita Acharya at No. 3. 

Senior Melissa Marquez (Waterbury, Conn.) notched a 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 victory over Gwen Gignac at No. 4, while first-year Kyla Core (Philadelphia, Pa.) took home the win, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7, against Kaia Cormier in the fifth seat. Senior Elena Frogameni (Florence, Mass.) recorded a 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 win over Zoe Kruse at No. 6, while first-year Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) posted a 11-5, 11-7, 11-4 win against Adelaide Esseln entered at No 7. At No 8., junior Dnyaneshwari Haware (Mumbai, India) notched a 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 victory over Grace Hartley, while junior Janiqua Davis (Dutton, Va.) won 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 over Cyrine Ben Ayed at No. 9. 

Kalahe was victorious against Vassar as well, knocking off Claire Coss 11-1, 11-4, 11-1. Gershuny bested Olivia Kane 11-5, 11-9, 11-8, while Haware defeated Sophia Choudhri in a five-game thriller 3-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9. The Brewers had to default the ninth slot as they emerged with the slight edge 5-4 over Mount Holyoke. 

Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Friday, February 25 for the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships in Cambridge, Mass.
