Squash Falls to Connecticut College

New London, Conn. - January 28, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team fell 8-1 to Connecticut College on Friday evening. The Lyons now have a record of 2-6 while the Camels improve to 4-7 with the win.

Slotted at No. 1, senior Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) was the lone victor of the evening, claiming the 4-11, 1-11, 6-11 win over Rachel Matamoros. Sophomore Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) fell in a close five-game match to Isabel Schumacher at No. 2. Entered at No. 3, senior Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) lost in three games to Liliana Vazquez.

At No. 4 senior Melissa Marquez (Waterbury, Conn.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Birgitta Quinn, while in the fifth slot junior Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) fell to Crystal Dixon. First-year Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) lost 3-0 to Caroline Champa at No. 6, while at No. 7, senior Elena Frogameni (Northampton, Mass.) fell 3-0 to Eva Ross. At No. 8, junior Dnyaneshwari Haware (Mumbai, India) dropped a 3-0 decision to Ashley Breyer.

The Lyons had to default the ninth slot as the Camels emerged with the 8-1 victory.

Up next, the Lyons will host Bard College on Sunday, January 30. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
