Squash Drops Decision to Dickinson and William Smith

Geneva, N.Y. - January 23, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team fell 9-0 to Dickinson College and 8-1 to William Smith Sunday afternoon. The Dickinson Devils are nationally ranked at No. 20 while the William Smith Herons are slotted at No. 22 according to the latest College Squash Association (CSA) National Rankings.

Against Dickinson at the top spot, senior Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) fell 3-1 to Amna Fayyaz while sophomore Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) lost 3-0 to Lindsay Kuracina at No. 2. Entered at No. 3, senior Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Eloise Nimoityn.

Senior Melissa Marquez (Waterbury, Conn.) fell 3-0 to Whitney Finney at No. 4, while at No. 5 junior Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) lost in three games to Cate Moll. First-year Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) lost 3-0 to Emerson Rains at No. 6, while in the seventh slot, senior Elena Frogameni (Northampton, Mass.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Ellissa Goldman. At No. 8, junior Dnyaneshwari Haware (Mumbai, India) fell 3-0 to Katelynn Young.

The Lyons had to default the ninth slot as the Devils surfaced with the 9-0 victory.

Later in the afternoon against William Smith, Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) was the sole victor as the senior cruised to a 10-12, 7-11, 7-11 win against Laila Selim. In the second seat sophomore Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) fell 3-0 to Marcela Marquez, while at No. 3 senior Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) lost in three games to Lark Ervasti.

Entered at No. 4, senior Melissa Marquez (Waterbury, Conn.) lost 3-0 to Joana Pacheco, while junior Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) fell to Molly Wachter at No. 5. First-year Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Erin Griffis slotted at No. 6, while senior Elena Frogameni (Northampton, Mass.) fell 3-0 to Maia Dreishpoon at No. 7. In the eighth seat junior Dnyaneshwari Haware (Mumbai, India) lost in three games to Kristen McCormick.

Up next, the Mount Holyoke squash team will travel to New London, Conn. to play host Connecticut College and Boston College on Saturday, January 29. The match versus Connecticut College is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. while the match versus Boston College is to be determined.
