#28 Squash Falls to #16 Amherst on the Road on Thursday

Amherst, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College squash team returned to action on Thursday evening, shouldering a loss on the road at Amherst College. The #16 Mammoths rallied to a 9-0 win over the #28 Lyons at the Davenport Squash Courts.

The match got underway with the even group as Amherst's Kim Krayacich faced off against junior Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School). Ghose fought hard, winning the first set, but eventually fell 3-1 (11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9). From four, Mammoth's Caroline Conway bested first year Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science) , 11-6, 11-1, 11-3, while Katy Sabina Correia gave the Amherst a 3-0 advantage with an 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 win at six against MHC's Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) 11-2, 11-4, 11-2. At the eighth spot in the ladder, Pierson Klein defeated Lyons' first year Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional), 11-1, 11-0, 11-4.

At the top of the ladder MHC's senior Brandy Williamson (New York, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) won the first set, but fell 12-14, 11-3, 14-12, 11-7 to Kim Krayacich. From three, Rachael Ang defeated senior Emily Chang (Carmichael, Calif./Mira Loma), 11-7, 11-9, 11-3, while Maddy Chen made it 7-0 from five, defeating junior Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet) 11-5, 11-3, 11-2. The match wrapped up with wins from Margaret Werner at the seven (11-1, 11-6, 11-3) and Emma Crowe at the nine to complete the 9-0 victory.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to William Smith College for a 1pm match while Amherst will compete at the CSA Women's Team Championship at Harvard University. .
