NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Kaleigh Quinn scored two goals on assists by Jenna Marsh to lead host Smith College to a 3-0 NEWMAC win over the Mount Holyoke soccer team on Wednesday, giving the host Bears their first conference win.
Quinn scored in the 12th minute to give Smith an early lead, which the hosts maintained the rest of the way. Smith outshot Mount Holyoke 16-4, with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Smith (2-7-1, 1-3-0 NEWMAC) pressured the Lyons consistently through the first half, but senior captain Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) kept the game close with some crucial saves. Govea finished with eight saves.
Quinn doubled the hosts' lead in the second minute of the second half, and Lily Wolf added Smith's third goal in the 79th minute.
Mount Holyoke (1-5-3, 0-4-0 NEWMAC) will host Babson College and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1pm.
