Defense keeps soccer team close in 1-0 loss at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke soccer team was held to six shots but kept Albertus Magnus College locked in a defensive battle on Wednesday night, as the Lyons fell 1-0 to the host Falcons.

Grace D'Amico scored on an assist by Ejalam Bravo in the 18th minute in the game's only goal.

Mount Holyoke (1-1) was outshot by Albertus Magnus (2-1) by an 18-6 margin, and the hosts had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior captain Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) made nine saves in her 34th career start in goal for Mount Holyoke. Amy Stevens stopped two shots in goal for Albertus Magnus, one each by sophomore Ania McMichael (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Evie Krieg (Frisco, Texas).

It was the third meeting between the teams and the first since 2017, and the Falcons' first win in the series.

Mount Holyoke returns home Sunday at noon to play DeSales University.
