Lyons Finish 2nd at Liberty League Championships; Three Earn All-League

SUFFERN, N.Y. -The Mount Holyoke College golf team shot six strokes better than day one, earning the runner-up finish at the 2017 Liberty League Championships, hosted by NYU at the Spook Rock Golf Course. The Lyons compiled a score of 648 on the weekend, led by three All-League players.

MHC was paced by senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), who rallied from ninth overall to finish sixth with a combined score of 159. She shot an 81 on the opening day of action, but countered with a solid 78 in the final round on her way to earning All-Liberty League Second Team honors.

First year Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished ninth overall with a combined 161. After posting a 79 on day one, she posted an 82 on Sunday, also garnering All-League Second Team recognition.

Also earning league honors was first year Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who moved from 12th on day one to place 10th overall. She recorded an 83 on Saturday, rebounding for a 79 on day two and a 162 total score.

Senior captain June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) finished just outside the top-10, earning 12th overall after recording a 166 score on the weekend. She opened with an 84, countering with an 82 on Sunday in the final round.

Rounding out the efforts for Mount Holyoke was senior Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline), who shot an 86 on the opening 18, finishing with an 88 on Sunday for a final score of 174.

New York University, which saw all five of its golfers place in the top-10, won this year's tournament with a team score of 605, including a 301 combined score on day two. The Violets earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championship. Mount Holyoke was runner-up, followed by Wellesley (660) in third. Vassar was fourth overall (662) with St. Lawrence (689) rounding out the top five.

Mount Holyoke has concluded its 2016-17 season with the league tournament. The Lyons finished sixth or better in seven of eight tournaments, including third at the NYU Invitational in late October.
