Golf Finishes 6th at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Action at the 2016 MHC Invitational has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College golf team finished sixth overall in a field of 14 teams. The Lyons were paced by senior captain June Conti, who posted a top-10 finish as the squad recorded a combined score of 663. Williams College claimed this year's title, shooting a combined 601 on the weekend.

Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School), who posted a score of 79 in the opening slate of action, finished the final round with a mark of 76. She recorded a combined score of 155, which was good for ninth overall in the field. First year Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished 34th overall with a combined score of 167. She shot an 85 on day one, rebounding with an 82 in the Final Round.

Senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) went on to finish 41st on the weekend. After notching an 85 in the First Round, she posted an 84 for a total of 169.

First year Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) was 46th overall with a combined 172. She notched an 89 on day one, rebounding with an 83 on day two. Classmate Maggie Kohl (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) rounded out the team scoring in 57th, notching a 187 on the weekend. She recorded an 89, followed by a 98 on day two.

Individually, the Lyons saw two players compete, paced by first year Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who finished 13th overall. She finished with a score of 79 both days for an overall score of 158. Classmate Madi Gale (Poulsbo, Wash./Kingston) was 67th overall with a score of 205 (96-105), while fellow rookie Sophia Verducci (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) rounded out the action in 77th with a score of 234 (121-113).

Williams posted the victory at this year's invitational paced by Phoebe Mattana, who earned medalist honors after recording a 147 (72-75) on the weekend. Amherst College grabbed the runner-up spot with a combined 621, followed closely by New York University, which shot a 623. Middlebury College finished fourth with a 628, while Wellesley rounded out the top-five with a combined score of 659.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Williams Fall Invitational. Action begins on Saturday at 12pm, with Sunday's final round kicking off at 9am.
