Rowing Competes at Tail of the Housatonic Featuring Fairfield and Sacred Heart

Shelton, Conn. - October 2, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed in the "Tail of the Housatonic" on Saturday morning, a regatta featuring a pair of Division-I programs in Sacred Heart and Fairfield at the Beacon Point Marine. The Lyons posted second-place finishes in both 5k races.

Starting things off with the novice race, Mount Holyoke College took second overall with a time of 23:33 in a boat that was led by Miranda Hull (Baltimore, Md.) as coxswain along with Dina Markovich-Koyfman (Seattle, Wash.), Lilla Carroll (Birmingham, Ala.), Karis Knoll (Miami, Fla.), Lora Jushchenko (Montclair, N.J.), Celine Falcon-Geist (Northfield, Minn.), Katherine Delamere (Sherman, Conn.), Mackenzie Windus (Little Genesee, N.Y.) and Arin Rinvelt (Ann Arbor, Mich.).

Following was the Lyons' second boat in the novice race, as coxswain Jennifer Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) led a boat of Hannah Avidon (Washington, D.C.), Grace Wason (Salt Lake City, Utah),  Jules Kawczynski (Haddonfield, N.J.), Mariam FaisalWinnie Liang (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Wendy Wang (Beijing, China), Cayla Ossen-Gutnick (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), Grace Walters (Arlington, Mass.) to fifth with a time of 28:14.

In the Varsity 8 5k race, Mount Holyoke College took second overall as the Lyons' top boat clocked in a time of 20:21, trailing Fairfield University by just 10 seconds. Coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson (Berkeley, Calif.) led a boat featuring Celeste Keep (Bolton, Mass.), Emma Waldron (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Simran Kaur (Hanover, N.H.), Jocelyn Greer (Athens, N.Y.), Liv Romanowsky (Simsbury, Conn.), Claire Papendick (North Tonowanda, N.Y.), Jill Slatch (Gansevoort, N.Y.), and Ellie Mohn (Exeter, Conn.).

The second Mount Holyoke College boat turned in a time of 21:33 and took sixth overall. That boat featured Dara Weingarten (Niskayuna, N.Y.) as the coxswain along wit Claire Gabel (Watertown, Mass.), Meghan French (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Piper LaPointe (Norfolk, Mass.), Autumn Lee (Memphis, Tenn.), Anna Karns (Sullivan, Maine), Celina Krantz (Seattle, Wash.), Katherine Dailey (Camden, Maine), and Amy Wang (Beijing, China).

"This was a solid effort from each crew," said head Mount Holyoke College rowing coach Seth Hussey. "I am happy with the starting point but there is plenty of work to do."

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to the Head of the Riverfront, hosted at Riverside Park in Hartford, Conn. on Sunday, October 3.
