Rowing Concludes 2017-18 at National Invitational Rowing Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College rowing team wrapped-up its 2017-18 season on Friday, competing in the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) on Lake Quinsigamond. The Lyons saw two boats in action for the season-finale against several of the top teams in the nation.

MHC opened the day's action at 9am as the second varsity eight took to the water for its first heat. The Lyons placed sixth overall in the second of three heats with a time of 8:01.742. Advancing into the Third Level Final for the afternoon, Mount Holyoke significantly bettered its time with a 7:50.941 – taking fifth in the event. Overall, the second varsity eight was 17th amongst the field.

The 2V8 lineup consisted of sophomore Azulina Green (C/Sanford, Fla./Seminole), sophomore Mira Rosenkotz (S/Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island), sophomore Lainie LaRonde (7/Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), first year Molly Aslin (6/Germantown, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School), first year Gabrielle Spano (5/Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), first year Casey Roepke (4/Burlingame, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands School), junior Sriya Pradhan (3/New Delhi, India/Mayo College Girl's School), first year Kate Dutilly (2/Moneta, Va./Community HS of Arts & Academics) and first year Kari Meko (B/Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy).

MHC's varsity eight boat opened the day at 10:12am in the first heat, which featured several of the top crews in the nation, including #1 Bates. The Lyons were sixth overall with a time of 7:04.214, advancing into the Third Level Final. Mount Holyoke placed sixth in the final with a time of 7:10.517. Overall, the varsity eight was 18th amongst the field.

The Lyons V8 lineup included junior Zoe Zelkowitz (C/Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), sophomore Halee Mahoney (S/Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), sophomore Hannah LeBlanc (7/Portland, Ore./Sunset), first year Sabina Morris (6/New York, N.Y./Beacon School), sophomore Elizabeth Hazen (5/Brookline, Mass./Brookline), senior Ariya Lawson (4/Washington, D.C./St. Paul's School), junior Sharlow Hitchcock (3/Methuen, Mass./Methuen), first year Irina Mara (2/Arlington, Mass./Arlington) and sophomore Emma Taylor (B/Beverly, Mass./Waring School).
