Rowing Finishes Strong Against the Nation's Top Teams

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College rowing team took to the water on Sunday morning, heading to Lake Quinsigamond for a race hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The event featured several of the top teams in Division III, including #1 Bates, #5 Hamilton, the host Engineers who are #7 and #11 Pacific Lutheran. Also featured at the event were Clark and Simmons.

In the varsity eight race, the Lyons crew raced to third in their opening heat, placing just behind Bates and Hamilton. With the top two teams of the heat moving onto the Grand Final, MHC's boat went into Petite Final action, posting a time of 7:19.8 to best Simmons (7:22.9) and Clark (7:46.3).

The Lyons varsity eight boat was comprised of coxswain Zoe Zelkowitz, Elizabeth Hazen (S), Halee Mahoney (7), Hannah LeBlanc (6), Emma Taylor (5), Sharlow Hitchcock (4), Ariya Lawson (3), Lainie Laronde (2) and Mira Rosenkotz (B).

Mount Holyoke's second varsity eight also had an outstanding effort on Sunday, taking fourth overall in their heat. The Lyons advanced into the Petite Final, taking third overall with a time of 8:07.0. Simmons (7:40.4) won the final, while Clark (8:00.3) finished just ahead of MHC.

The competing crew for the second varsity eight featured a pair of coxswains in Genesis Rocha (heat) and Amelia Green (final), Sabina Morris (S), Molly Aslin (7), Gabrielle Spano (6), Kari Meko (5), Casey Roepke (4), Sriya Pradhan (3), Kate Dutilly (2) and Paloma Cruz (B).

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Sunday when it returns to Lake Quinsigamond for a regatta hosted by Clark University.
