Rowing Opens Up Spring Slate With Solid Performance In Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team opened its 2017 spring schedule on Saturday, posting solid performances in action against Amherst, UMass and Fairfield. The event was a non-team scoring affair.

Leading the way was the second varsity eight boat, which grabbed victory with a time of 8:02. The Lyons outpaced both boats from Amherst as the Purple & White's 2V had a time of 8:06, while the 3V posted a mark of 9:06.

The second varsity eight boat was crewed by coxswain Zoe Zelkowitz, Halee Mahoney (S), Hannah LeBlanc (7), Sharlow Hitchcock (6), Morgan Lemos (5), Emma Taylor (4), Mira Rosenkotz (3), Nicole Villacres (2), and Mira Kelly-Fair (B).

In the first varsity eight race, the Lyons were second behind host Amherst. The crew posted a time of 7:32, which was just behind the Purple and White's mark of 7:25. Comprising today's 1V8 boat was coxswain Leela Woody, Ariya Lawson (S), Azulina Green (7), Ariya Lawson (6), Elizabeth Hazen (5), Sophie Rabinow (4), Emma Tolerton (3), Meghan Ryan (2), and Susannah Lickus (B).

The varsity four race saw MHC finish behind UMass in a time of 8:58.17. UMass a mark of 8:25.90, while Fairfield did not finish. Leading the V4 boat was coxswain Maya Sterett, Clare Zicari (S), Grace Remillard (3), Olivia Vejcik (2), and Sriya Pradhan (B).

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Schenectady, N.Y., to square-off against Union, along with Johnson & Whales and Amherst.
