2015-16 Basketball Year In Review

Under the direction of 12th-year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Mount Holyoke basketball team posted a record of 0-24 and 0-16 in NEWMAC play during the 2015-16 season.

The Lyons opened the season with a tough stretch of games, shouldering losses in each of their first 10 games to start the campaign. MHC set its sights on the win category to open 2016, but fell just short in an opening 57-36 loss to non-conference foe Plymouth State.

Mount Holyoke faced a tough battle in the games that followed, digging into the heart of the NEWMAC schedule. The Lyons shouldered losses to Coast Guard, MIT and Wheaton before putting on a strong fight against Emerson mid-January. Senior captain and guard Genelle Green and junior forward Xajaah Williams-Flores each notched double-figures against the Lions as MHC fell by a 56-38 margin.

The Lyons continued to battle till the very end against a tough NEWMAC slate, aided by Green, who led the team in scoring with a 12.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest average. She also added 33 assists, two blocks and 39 steals as a starter in 22 of 24 games.

Green also finished among the NEWMAC's best in several categories, including third in minutes per game (33.6), sixth in free throws (47-82) and seventh in points per game (12.9). She was eighth and 13th overall in those respective categories.

First year forward Leah Hodges added 5.5 points per game, while recording nine blocks, 15 steals and 30 assists, while senior forward Siyao Sui chipped in with 4.9 points per contest. Williams-Flores had 4.8 points per game and finished second on the team in rebounding with a 5.8 caroms average.
