NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Megan Fornaro led all scorers with 19 points while Torie Sutherland had 14 points and 13 rebounds, her third double-double of the season as Coast Guard cruised to an 86-43 win over Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

The Bears improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in NEWMAC play while Mount Holyoke drops to 0-12 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

In addition to Fornaro, Torie Sutherland added 14 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, while sophomore Jill Bray added 11 points off the bench. Junior Bekah Muller and first year Micaela Martinelli each had career-high rebounds with 13 and 12, respectively for Coast Guard.

Coast Guard scored the first eight points of the game, led 26-6 after one quarter and never looked back.

Mount Holyoke outscored the Bears 15-14 in the second quarter behind a nine-point effort from senior Genelle Green, but the Lyons trailed 40-21 at the break.

Coast Guard would score the first 12 points of the second half, seven of those by Fornaro as the Bears pushed the lead to 52-21 with 7:15 left in the third quarter. Despite a four-point effort from first year Leah Hodges, MHC was unable to close the gap as the Bears used a strong advantage off the glass to add to their lead.

Green led the Lyons with 18 points to go with seven rebounds while junior Xajaah Williams-Flores added ten points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Coast Guard shot 40.5 percent (32-79) in the win including 9 of 26 from behind the arc (34.6 percent) while the Lyons were 18 of 58 (31 percent) making 2 of 5 from 3-point range.

Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Wellesley to play the Blue in a NEWMAC game with tip set for 7 p.m. Mount Holyoke returns to the court on Saturday, hosting MIT at 1 p.m.
