With sixth year head coach Michelle Scecina leading the way, the Mount Holyoke basketball team posted an overall record of 8-18 in 2009-10. The Lyons advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament for the second year in a row, falling 57-40 to second seeded WPI in the quarterfinal round. They posted a 6-12 mark in league play.

Mount Holyoke cruised to a 71-65 triumph over Western New England College in its season opener. The Lyons netted a program record nine three pointers in the contest. Four days later, they handed the Wentworth Institute of Technology a 59-50 setback in the consolation game of the Brandeis University Classic. They held off Wellesley College 61-57 for their first NEWMAC win of the year in early December.

Over the course of the season, Mount Holyoke swept both MIT (42-29 / 60-50) and Clark University (67-52 / 57-38). The Lyons also raced to a 56-38 victory over the Coast Guard Academy. Their free throw percentage of 68.4 (225-329) was a new program single season record.

Guard Angelica Pascual made an immediate impact on the program with her outstanding all-around play. The first year drained 23 three pointers en route to scoring a team best 10.2 points per game. She also pulled down 6.2 rebounds per outing, dished out 40 assists and added 26 steals. Pascual converted 72.2% (52-72) of her free throw attempts. She posted three double-doubles.

Fellow guard Erin Cain recorded 9.9 points per game to go with 51 assists. The senior contributed squad highs of 38 steals and 27 three pointers made. She also knocked down 81.4% (35-53) of her attempts from the charity stripe.

Pascual and Cain were each voted to the Key Largo Classic All-Tournament Team. Earlier in the season, Pascual was also named to the Brandeis University Classic All-Tournament Team.

After a one year hiatus, forward Jess Olson rejoined the Lyons for her senior season. She posted 7.7 points and a team high 6.4 boards per contest. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Christine Chancy added 6.7 points per game and a team best 76 assists. Her three point percentage of 42.6 (23-54) was a new program single season record. Sophomore forward Tricia Chase chipped in with 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per outing.
