CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team won its third straight game by its largest margin yet on Tuesday night, winning 8-0 at Elms College while outshooting the Blazers 25-0.
The Lyons (3-3) have defeated their past three opponents by an aggregate score of 18-0.
Mount Holyoke got two goals and two assists from first-year Rory Bernardo (Oaklyn, N.J.), while junior Emily Bisson (Manchester, N.H.) scored a career-high two goals. Junior Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) and sophomore Aarya Phadnis (Mountain View, Calif.) also scored goals, and the Lyons benefited from two own goals let in by the Blazers (0-5).
Alsted netted her team-high fourth goal on an assist from junior Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.) on a penalty corner whistled just 16 seconds into the game. Bernardo added back-to-back unassisted goals in the fourth and ninth minutes of the game, giving her three goals this season, and the Lyons were in complete command the rest of the way.
Katelyn Volk made nine saves for Elms. Senior Ainsley Gruener (Topsfield, Mass.) and sophomore Heidi Hausmann (Ashland, Mass.) combined on the shutout in goal without facing any shots.
Mount Holyoke will host Nichols College on Thursday at 6pm, then open NEWMAC play Saturday 1pm at MIT.
