NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Linnea Alsted scored two goals and added an assist as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team rolled to its second straight victory on Saturday, a 6-0 win at Albertus Magnus College in the teams' first-ever meeting.
The Lyons (2-3) scored three times in the opening nine minutes, and led 4-0 at the half with goals by four different players.
Sophomore MJ Owens (Fairfield, Conn.) became Mount Holyoke's fifth scorer with a goal early in the fourth quarter, and Alsted notched her third goal of the week in the 54th minute to finish off the scoring.
Mount Holyoke outshot Albertus Magnus (0-3) by a difference of 28-2 and had the advantage in penalty corners for the fifth time in as many games this season, at 11-2.
Alsted fed junior Diane Lee (Boston, Mass.) for the game-opening goal with 10:36 left in the first quarter, and Lee's team-high third goal this season.
Less than a minute later, Alsted converted her second penalty stroke goal of the season for a 2-0 Lyons lead in the early going.
Albertus goalie Ella Welton made saves on first-year Rory Bernardo (Oaklyn, N.J.) and junior Scout Climie (Guilford, Conn.) in the ninth minute before junior Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.) cashed in with an assist from Climie to make it 3-0.
Bernardo scored her first collegiate goal early in the second quarter with an assist by Owens, and Mount Holyoke had a commanding 4-0 lead with 43 minutes left to play.
Welton made five saves in the third quarter to keep the lead at four, then made a save on a second penalty stroke by Alsted early in the fourth quarter. But less than a minute later, Owens scored for a 5-0 lead, assisted by junior Emily Bisson (Manchester, N.H.), to tie Lee for the team scoring lead with her third goal.
Alsted joined Lee and Owens atop the team scoring column with a penalty corner goal on an insert assist from junior Lily Guerrera (Fairfield, Conn.) with 6:28 left in the game -- Guerrera's first career point.
Welton finished the game with 17 saves for Albertus Magnus; for Mount Holyoke, senior Ainsley Gruener (Topsfield, Mass.) made two saves in the first half and split the shutout with sophomore Heidi Hausmann (Ashland, Mass.), who kept goal in the second half.
Mount Holyoke will look to make it three straight when they play Tuesday 7pm at Elms College.
