Field hockey completes Maine road trip with narrow loss at Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Mount Holyoke field hockey team gave a strong effort in a tough loss for the second straight day on Sunday, falling 2-0 at Thomas College.

Tatiana Roque and Caroline Hendrickson both scored unassisted goals in the second quarter, and the two-goal lead stood up for the host Terriers (1-1), who have become a perennial early-season non-conference opponent for the Lyons (0-2).

Thomas outshot Mount Holyoke 17-7, while the Lyons earned a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Sophomore MJ Owens (Fairfield, Conn.) had a team-high three shots in game, two of them on goal. 

Senior Ainsley Gruener (Topsfield, Mass.) made seven saves in goal for the Lyons; for Thomas, Eliya Drummond made five saves.

Mount Holyoke next plays its home opener, hosting the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6pm.
