SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Powered by a pair of second half goals, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team recorded a 2-0 shutout over Simmons University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. The win moves the homestanding Lyons to 7-6 overall, while the visiting Sharks are now 4-9 on the season.

Following a scoreless first half of action which saw Simmons' goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass./Nauset Regional) stop all four shots she faced on goal, Mount Holyoke was finally able to break through at the 38:27 mark. As the ball was carried into the Lyons' offensive zone, rookie midfielder Abby Baldwin (Florence, Mass./Northampton) sent a fantastic cross from the right into the front middle of the crease. Senior middie Liz Delorme (Florence, Mass./Bellingham) was there to bang home the ball into the left corner post and the 1-0 advantage.

Mount Holyoke, which held Simmons to a 12-1 shots in the second stanza, added an insurance goal at 60:04 after back-to-back shots from first year forward Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) and Delorme were kick-saved away by McNamara. Unable to send the rebound out of the crease, senior forward Kristina Ramsden (Florence, Mass./Northampton) found the loose ball, burying it through for the 2-0 score.

The Lyons, who owned an 8-1 maring in penalty corners for the contest, saw junior goalie Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J./West Morris Menham) earn the win. She was not forced to make any stops in 65:32 minutes of action. Sophomore goalie Gianna Molinari (Windsor Locks, Conn./Northwest Catholic) came on for the final 4:28 of the contest. For Simmons, McNamara made a number of solid stops throughout the contest, finishing with 12 saves in the game, including eight in the second half.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Wheaton for a key NEWMAC match-up at 12pm. Simmons is also in action on Saturday, heading to Nichols for an 11am tilt.
