Field Hockey Dominates in 7-1 Win at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - Goals from four different players, including three from junior Diana Banmann, lifted the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team to a 7-1 victory over Nichols College in non-conference action on Thursday evening. With the victory, the Lyons move to 2-0 on the season, while the Bison slip to 0-3.

Nichols opened the game's scoring at 6:31 as Andrea Wilson collected a nice feed and scored on a breakaway. Banmann was quick to even the margin for the Lyons, tallying at 7:19 off a rebound in front.

Junior Christine Ianni broke the deadlock near the end of the first half, taking a shot that richocheted off the goalie and in at 29:45 for the 2-1 advantage.

In the second half of action, the Lyons continued to gain momentum as Banmann pushed in her second of the contest off a pass from Ianni and junior Kirsten Kilburn buried one in unassisted to take the 4-1 lead at the 47:37 mark.

 First year Charlotte Wagner added to the lead with a shot from the left side of the circle and Kilburn made it a 6-1 game after deking through three defenders for a shot inside at 64:51. Banmann concluded the game's scoring after corralling a pass from sophomore Sarah LaQuerre from the left side and pushing it in.

In goal, first year Liz DiCesare earned her second victory of the season with one save of 62:55 minutes of action. Rookie Mariesa Mazzone came on for the final 7:05 of relief and made one stop. For Nichols, Molly Melanson made 12 saves over 52:28, while Carmen Garcia had one save in 17:32 minutes of action.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they host Rensselaer at 12pm on the MHC Turf Field. Nichols is back in action on Tuesday at Clark at 7pm.
