Mount Holyoke places third at competitive Bentley/WPI Show

BOLTON, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke hunt seat riding team placed third out of 11 teams at a competitive Bentley and WPI Show Saturday at Maplewood Farms.

Up first was Open Fences, with senior Hallie Phillips (Santa Rosa, Calif.) placing third. Next up was Intermediate Fences. In Section A, sophomore Emi Graf (Belmont, Mass.) placed first. In Section B, junior Eliza Mutz (Stanford, Calif.) and senior Charlotte Subak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went into the ring and placed fourth and fifth respectively. In Section A of Limit Fences, junior Grace Neumuth (Marlborough, Conn.) placed sixth. In Section B, first-year Sophia Bull (Lumberton, N.J.) placed second.

After flat schooling, Phillips went back into the ring in Open Flat and rode to third place, meanwhile qualifying for Regionals. Mutz returned to the ring for Intermediate flat Section A and placed fifth. In Section B of Intermediate flat, sophomore Alyssa Martinsen (Arlington Heights, Ill.) placed fourth. In section C, Subak placed first.

Senior Lila Hancock (Morrisville, Vt.) went in the ring for Section A of Novice and placed sixth. In Section B, first year Maddie Bradley-Burns (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) placed second. In Section C, first year Salome Hizanishvili (Newton, Mass.) placed fourth. Junior Maria Ma (Jinan, China) placed first in Section A of Pre Novice.

Sophomore Bessie Huggins (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) placed second in the first section of Limit Flat. Neumuth placed first in Section B, junior Lainey Nibbio (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) placed fourth in Section B, and senior Kate Smith (Wells, Vt.) placed first in Section D, qualifying for Regionals.

The last two classes of the day were Introductory, with junior Milly Chen (Nanjing, China) in Section B, placing second. In Section C, junior Kenny Yang (Jiangsu, China) placed fifth.

The Lyons host the second Mount Holyoke Show of the fall on Nov. 15 at 9am at the MHC Equestrian Center.
