WELLESLEY, Mass. - September 2, 2022 - Senior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) claimed first place overall at the Wellesley College Invitational on Friday night, leading the Mount Holyoke College cross country team to a third-place finish out of four teams in head coach Jay Hartshorn's first meet as the Lyons' head coach.

Brandeis led the team scoring with 40 points, with both Wellesley (43) and Mount Holyoke (54) close behind, and Regis (Mass.) placing fourth.

Selkin, the first-ever NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships qualifyer for Mount Holyoke College, finished with a time of 18:24.7, more than 21 seconds faster than the runner up. Selkin ran an average mile of 5:55.5 en route to her third career collegiate cross country victory.

Sophomore Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) finished seventh among 38 competitors overall, notching a cross country personal-best time of 19:21.6, while junior Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) clocked in a time of 20:38.9. Sophomore Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) followed, posting a collegiate best of 21:00.6, while classmate Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) recorded a time of 21:13.1. "We ran really well," said Hartshorn, a three-time NESCAC Coach of the Year in her previous post at Bates College. "We tried to go out pretty conservative because it was the first race, and everyone looked really good at the end."

Next up, Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when the Lyons travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The race is set to begin at 12 p.m.
