Cross Country Finishes Fourth at NEWMAC Championships; Four Student-Athletes Collect All-Conference Honors

Wellesley, Mass. - October 30, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College cross country team placed fourth overall at the 2021 New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, hosted at Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. For the first time in program history, Mount Holyoke College had four student-athletes collect NEWMAC All-Conference Honors which is earned by placing in the Top-17. 

The Lyons scored 91 points on the day to finish fourth overall, while Smith College (79) placed third and Wellesley College (63) finished second overall. MIT claimed the NEWMAC Championship title with 34 points. 

Leading the Lyons with a fourth-place overall finish was junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) who clocked in a time of 22:15.5. Placing tenth overall was senior Madeline Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) who produced a season-best performance of 23:10.1 followed by classmate Hannah Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) who finished 13th overall with a time of 23:17.4. Senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) earned the final NEWMAC All-Conference Honor spot by finishing 17th overall with a season best of 23:25.8. 

Up next for the Lyons was senior Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) who ran a season-best performance of 24:53.4 followed by first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) who ran a personal best of 25:04.2. After that sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.) recorded a personal-best 6k performance of 25:18.9 followed by classmate Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) who also collected a personal best of 25:21.7. Up next was first-year Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) who produced a personal best of 25:29.5 followed by classmate Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) who also earned a personal best of 25:49.9. 

Finishing with a season best was junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) who produced a time of 25:59.1 followed by sophomore Lily Nemirovsky (Bedford, Mass.) who ran a personal best of 26:35.5. Up next was first-year Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) who finished with a time of 27:18.2 followed by junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) who clocked in a time of 28:15.3. Rounding out the field for the Lyons was first-year Julia Burm (Hingham, Mass.) who finished with a time of 28:49.9.

Up next, the Mount Holyoke College cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship, hosted at Harkness State Memorial Park in Waterford, Conn. on November 13, 2021. The race is set to begin at 12:15 p.m.
