No. 22 Babson tops volleyball for its 11th straight win

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Lulu McShane recorded seven kills on nine attacks and Laura Zuloaga added six kills in eight attempts to lead No. 22 nationally ranked Babson College to its 10th consecutive victory with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-11) decision over the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team on Saturday.

Babson (12-1, 4-0 NEWMAC) defeated the Lyons (5-7, 0-4 NEWMAC) by set scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-11, while hitting .329 as a team in the win.

Caroline Applewhite had 11 assists and Sophia Shaw led all players with 13 digs for the Beavers.

Mount Holyoke senior Mar Simon (Miami, Fla.) recorded seven kills and seven digs and classmate Marion Abeja (Kumi, Uganda) contributed two kills, 10 assists, five digs and a pair of service aces to lead the Lyons.

Sophomore libero Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) led the Lyons with eight digs, and senior McKenna Crosby (Jonesborough, Tenn.) had a match-high three blocks.

Babson trailed by as many as four early in the opening stanza before closing the frame with a 12-2 run that included three kills from McShane and two more from Isabella Allen to pull away from the visitors. The Beavers hit .286 in the second set and scored 11 consecutive points on the serve of sophomore Tatum Stelter to extend a three-point margin to 22-8 on the way to going up 2-0. Babson raced out to a 15-4 advantage in the third set and finished with 12 kills and no errors in 19 attempts to close out the three-set victory.

Mount Holyoke will host Wellesley Saturday at 1pm in search of its first NEWMAC win.
