SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wheaton College extended its winning streak to seven games after posting a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season opener for both squads. The battle of the Lyons saw Wheaton move to 8-1, while Mount Holyoke is now 4-2 on the young season.

The two teams battled back and forth to open the match, but a Mount Holyoke attacking error would break a 13-all deadlock, setting Wheaton ahead for good. The visiting Lyons closed out the set on a 12-5 run, capped by kills from Casey Dinga and Julia Palomba, along with an ace from Becca Houghton.

Mount Holyoke opened the second set with the advantage, jumping out to a 2-1 lead behind a kill from senior captain Sarah Caggiano. The visitors quickly bounced back, going on a 7-1 run behind kills from Dinga and Palomba to hold the advantage for the remainder of the set.

The final set saw Wheaton jump out to a quick advantage. Aces from MHC's Sarah Bishop and Cameron Graham helped close the gap to 14-10, but the visitors took advantage of late errors to seal the win.

Wheaton was paced by 12 kills from Palomba, who also had two aces and four digs. The visitors also received an eight kill night from Dinga and Claire Cansler, with Cansler ending with a .615 attacking percentage. Houghton had a match-high 37 assists to go with two aces, five digs and two blocks.
