SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. – The Mount Holyoke volleyball team begins a new chapter in 2017 under the direction of first-year head coach Iris Carpio. The Lyons get underway on Saturday, September 2nd in tri-match action at the University of St. Joseph (CT.). Over the past two seasons, the Lyons have gone 5-1 in its first three games. 

TOP FIVE MOMENTS FROM LAST YEAR

• Four different players tallied double-digit kills in a 3-0 win over MCLA, while setter Natalie Lyon '17 notched a career-high 39 assists. (Watch Clip)
• In a 3-0 win over Albertus Magnus, first year middle hitter Sasha Simine and sophomores Joy Maran and Sarah Caggiano –also middle hitters - all notched 10 kills. In addition to a 30 assist-10 dig effort from Lyon, Caggiano paced all players with three blocks solo.
• Simine finished fifth among all NEWMAC players in hitting percentage (.307). She also ranked seventh in blocks solo (13) and was eighth in blocks per set average (.77).
• Lyon finished eighth in the NEWMAC in assists per set (7.07) and 10th in total assists, while also posting .49 aces per set, which was eighth in the conference. She has never dropped below 13th in assists in her career.
• The Lyons had four players tabbed to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team including Caggiano, Maran, sophomore outside hitter Jamesa Allen, and classmate and right side, Isabell Linde.

• MHC will potentially have eight returners from the 2016 squad, including four with 100+ digs and five with 25 or more total blocks.
• Maran, Allen, Simine and Caggiano will power the offensive charge for MHC. All four boasted at least 100 kills last season.
• MHC had three players (Caggiano, Maran, and Simine) finish amongst the top seven in the conference for blocks solo last fall, continuing to improve on the defensive side of play.
• The Lyons had the largest scoring output (942.0 points) in the last three years during 2016. With a veteran squad, the Lyons will look to raise the bar once more.
