Volleyball Falls in Non-Conference Tri-Match Action

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior captain Emma Sweeting posted a combined 20-kill effort, but the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team shouldered losses to Framingham State and Plymouth State in non-conference action on Saturday at Smith College. The Lyons fell to the Rams, 3-1, and suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Panthers. MHC slips to 6-12 on the year.

In the 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25) loss to Framingham State, Sweeting (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) recorded 15 kills, adding a service ace and six digs. She also added three block assists. First year middle hitter Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) added nine kills with three digs, while also posting two service aces a block solo and a block assist. Classmate and fellow middle hitter Sarah Caggiano (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) recorded seven kills with three block assists and a block solo, while junior setter Natalie Lyon (Oakton, Va./Flint Hill School) had eight digs, two service aces and 32 assists.

The 3-0 (20-25, 13-25, 12-25) match against Plymouth State saw Caggiano post a team-high seven kills with four digs and three block assists. Sweeting added five kills, five digs, a block solo and a block assist, while first year middle hitter Joy Maran (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep) had five kills and two digs. Lyon led the way once again in assists with 16, while first year libero Sara Robicheau (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame HS) had a team-best nine digs.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Norwich University for a 7pm match.
