    The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) volleyball team rallied from a four-point deficit to go on a 6-0 run and take not only the third set, but also match victory in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 26-24) win over Mount Holyoke College in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season finale for both teams.

    Despite a number of outstanding efforts, including a 21-kill performance from junior Emma Sweeting, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team could not capitalize on the final day of the 2014 Seven Sisters Championships at Vassar. The Lyons fell to the host Brewers, 3-0, to open the morning, and shouldered a 3-0 loss to Smith to wrap-up the day.

    Junior Emma Sweeting recorded 21 kills and 16 digs on the day, but the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team was unable to break into the win column, shouldering losses to Wellesley College (3-0) and Bryn Mawr College (3-1) in day one action at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Vassar. The Lyons move to 2-5 overall.

    Senior Kaleen Iwema notched her 1,000th career dig and the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team wrapped-up its second win of the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-22) victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Tuesday at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. With the victory, the Lyons move to 2-3 on the season, while the Trailblazers even up at 2-2 overall.

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team was in action on Saturday, hosting the University of Saint Joseph and Bridgewater State University at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons posted a 3-1 victory – their first of 2014 - over USJ before falling 3-1 despite a hard-fought third set win against the Bears.
  • Volleyball Falls in Season-Opening Tri-Match

    Worcester State University used a solid effort, including a 29-kill effort from senior Alyssa Jasper to post a 2-0 record in the season-opening tri-match at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. The Lancers defeated the host Lyons by a 3-0 margin and downed Norwich University, 3-1, in the middle match. The Cadets earned a 3-1 victory over MHC.
