Track and Field Begins 2020 at GBTC Invitational

Cambridge, Mass. - January 19, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team competed at the Greater Boston Track Club (GBTC) Invitational, hosted at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track Facility on Sunday.

In the field events, Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass.) took fourth in the triple jump, producing a career-best mark of 10.11 meters. Wohlin's mark of 10.11 meters was No. 6 all-time at Mount Holyoke College in the event. In the high jump, Caitlin Lynch (Princeton, Mass.) tied for fifth, clearing 1.50 meters. Additionally, Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.) competed in the pole vault and cleared a career-high 2.45 meters which landed her in ninth place. Pendl-Robinson's mark of 2.45 meters is now No. 3 all-time in Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field history.

Moving to the track events, Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) produced the fastest time in the 60 meter dash prelims, clocking in at a career best 8.76 seconds, also moving her up to No. 10 all-time at Mount Holyoke College. Next, in the 3000 meter run, Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) took seventh overall with a personal-best time of 10:22.20, followed by Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.), who finished eighth with a career-fastest time of 10:22.85. Hannah Rieders' time of 10:22.20 is now No. 2 all-time at Mount Holyoke College, while Madeline Rieders' time of 10:22.85 is No. 3. Also producing career-best times in the 3k was Sarah Hyde (Arlington, Mass.), who posted a time of 11:48.49, Olivia Griesmer (Austin, Texas), who crossed in 11:50.26 and Katie Milligan (Scituate, Mass.), who clocked in at 12:00.10.

In the 400 meter dash, Eliza Butler (Scarsdale, N.Y.) produced a season-best time of 1:07.61, while Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) clocked in at personal-best time of 1:56.84 in the 600 meter run. Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second in her section of the one mile run with a personal-best mark of 5:19.78, crossing just ahead of Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.), who finished with a time of 5:36.02. Jacob's time of 5:19.78 is now No. 4 all time at Mount Holyoke College. Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) also had a career-best outing in the mile, producing a time of 5:59.27. 

Wohlin was second in her section of the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in career-best 27.90 seconds, as she was followed by Rosemary Geib (Jamestown, R.I.), who posted a career-best time of 29.40 seconds and Sternberg, who posted a personal-best time of 29.67 seconds. Sara Robillard (Delran, N.J.) also had a career-best time of 33.50 seconds in the event. In the 1000 meter run, Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) had the Lyons' best performance with a career-best time of 3:31.26. Rodman was just behind in the event with a time of 3:35.52, good for seventh in the section and was followed by Charlotte Lindblom (Takoma Park, Md.), who clocked in at 3:39.45.

Finishing up the day, Jacob completed the 800 meter run in a time of 2:29.00, good for fourth in the top section, while in the same race, Nash took ninth with a time of 2:33.44.  

The Lyons will return to Boston on Friday, January 24 and will compete in the Boston University Terrier Classic, then head to Springfield College for the Massasoit Invitational at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 25.
