Track & Field Competes at NEWMAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke track and field team competed at the NEWMAC Championships on Saturday hosted by Springfield College. The Lyons finished ninth behind five top-10 finishes, including one in the top-three.

Sophomore Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) had the Lyons top finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in a personal best time of 58.63 to place third overall. Theroux also had a strong performance in the 200m dash, finishing ninth with a 26.47 mark.

Also finishing ninth was sophomore Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who had a time of 12.19.20 in the 3,000m steeplechase. In the 4X400m relay, the team comprised of Threroux, and first years Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya/Brookhouse International), Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS), and Ireland Clare Kennedy (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) finished fifth overall with a season-best time of 4:12.37.

On the field, Clare Kennedy placed seventh in the javelin throw with a long distance of 29.50m, while junior Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) finished 11th after throwing a distance of 39.05m.

Select members of the squad who have qualified for the New England DIII Championships will compete on Friday at MIT in Campridge, Massachusetts. Theroux will compete individually in the 400m dash, while also joining Mukulu, Wohlin, and Clare Kennedy in the 4x400m relay. Raney will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase.
