SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College track and field team concluded its regular season at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday. The Lyons had a number of solid finishes, powered by sophomore Charleen Theroux, who qualified for the New England Division III Championships.

Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) had a strong performance in the 100-meter dash, racing to a time of 12.77, good for fifth place and a spot in the finals. She then cut .03 seconds off of her first-round time (12.74) to place sixth in the finals, which qualified her for the DIII Championships. Theroux continued to dominate the 400m dash field with a second place performance, crossing the line in 1:01.27, less than a second behind the first place finisher. First year Tamara Mukulu  (Nairobi, Kenya/Brookhouse International) also had a solid performance in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.08 in fifth place.

As action transitioned to the 800m run, first year Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco university HS) put forth a personal-best with a time of 2:29.75, placing eighth in a field of 26.Simone used that momentum to power a career-best mark of 5:03.80 in the 1500m run to place second overall out of 25 runners. Her time was over 10 seconds faster than her previous mark of 5:14.01. Also taking down a personal best was sophomore Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who places third with a time of 5:04.96. Raney's previous best time was 5:15.00.

In the 4x100m relay, Mount Holyoke's squad of (1) Theroux, (2) first year Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS), (3) first year Ireland Clare Kennedy (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) and (4) Mukulu placed fourth with a time of 51.78.

On the field, junior Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenvile) threw for a personal-best distance of 38.96m to place sixth in the hammer throw, while Clare Kennedy also had a personal-best in the javelin throw with a mark of 28.95m to place seventh.

Mount Holyoke now transitions to post-season action as they head back to Springfield to compete in the NEWMAC Championships. Action is set to begin at 11:00am.
