Bangor, Maine - A school record-breaking performance from sophomore Charleen Theroux lifted her to a second place performance at the University of Southern Maine Pentathlon on Friday. Theroux eclipsed her previous school record of 3,175 points in the event.

The evening kicked off with the 55-meter hurdles where Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) placed third with a time of 8.95, taking down her previous best time of 9.53. She then tied for sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.44m, before her powerful performance in the shot put. The sophomore dismantled her previous record of 9.77m, throwing 10.14m to earn 539 points for second place.

The Rhode Island native used that momentum to dominate the long jump event with a first place distance of 5.13m, .12 meters farther than the next highest finisher. Theroux capped off her evening with a personal-best time of 2:29.07 in the 800m dash, good for second place. The performance earned her a school record of 3,177 total points.

Theroux will continue to compete during the outdoor season, starting with the Wesleyan Invitational on March 24th.
