Track and Field Competes at the Springfield College Massasoit Classic

Springfield, Mass - The Mount Holyoke track and field team was back in action on Saturday at the Springfield College Massasoit Classic. The non-team scoring event saw a number of solid performances for the Lyons, including a pair of top-five finishes.

Action opened up with the 3,000-meter run and sophomore Emma Raney  (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was the Lyons top finisher at 6th place. Raney's time of 11:32.16 was just seven seconds out of the top five. She was followed by classmates Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) with a time of 12:22.23 in 11th place and Maya Sterett (Alexandria, Va./Washington-Lee) with a time of 12:53.34 in 14th.

In the 800m-run, sophomore Michelle Serrano (Los Angeles, Calif./West Adams Preparatory)crossed the line in a time of 2:49.24, while senior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) came after in 3:01.81, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively. Action progressed to the 1000m-run, where first year Olivia Wrobleski (Fall River, Mass./Bishop Stang) placed 16th with a time of 3:42.72. Senior captain Julia Criscione (Bernardsville, N.J./Villa Walsh Academy) finished in 20th with a 3:55.02 mark. In the mile-run, first year Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS) finished well with a 5:46.69 in 9th, while junior Emsie Cronin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) was 15th with a 5:59.94 time.

First year Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS) had a strong day, placing fourth in the 60m hurdles. Wholin's 9.64 second performance was just .37 seconds outside of the top-three and .53 seconds faster than her prelim time. She then took it to the 200 where she placed 16th out of 35 runners with a time of 28.89 seconds.

Action moved to the field where junior captain Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) had solid performances in the shot put and weight throw, increasing her distance with each throw. In the shot put, Hecking placed 16th and threw 8.17m, 8.61m, and 8.77m for her three tosses. In the weight throw, she placed 10th with throws of 10.41m, 10.61m, and 11.05m.

MHC is back in action this weekend, beginning Friday with one competitor heading to the Tufts Cupid Challenge Pentathlon. The entire squad will be in action on Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational, set to begin at 10am.
