Mount Holyoke Competes At Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team had several solid performances in the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday in Middleton, Connecticut. Sophomore Julia Hecking turned in the top performance of the day after placing third in the weight throw.

Hecking threw a distance of 10.67 meters, followed by senior Emma Tolerton in fourth with a throw of 8.95m. Tollerton also competed in the 600-meter run and placed 19th with a time of 1:55.70, while Hecking participated in the shot put and placed 11th with a throw for 8.60m. Junior Shante Henderson (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Theatre Arts School) placed 11th in the shot put with a distance of 10.14m.

Sophomore Donari Yahzid (Atlanta, Ga./Fountain Valley School of Colorado) had another great performance in the long jump, turning in a distance of 4.93m. First year Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) also was in the event and jumped a 4.52m distance, which was good for 22nd place.

First year Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) had a solid day, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 27.52. She also performed in the 60-meter dash and turned in a time of 8.54, good for 13th place.

In the one-mile run, junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) ran a time of 5:46.02 on her way to 11th place. Classmate Hannah Gershone (Minnetonkka, Minn./Hopkins) placed 17th with a 5:49.89 time, while sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative High School) was right behind her with a time of 5:50.30, good for 18th.

In the 1,000-meter run, Gershone and Barnes placed 14th and 15th, while first year Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was 20th. Gershone turned in a time of 3:30.22, Barnes finished in 3:33.40, and Raney had a time of 3:37.43.

Mount Holyoke will be back in action on Saturday at the MIT Invitational. Competition time is yet to be determined.
