South Hadley, Mass. - March 26, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team fell in a close match to visitor Colby-Sawyer College, 5-4, at the MHC Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles play, senior Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) and first-year Annika Chai (London, England) represented Mount Holyoke at No. 1 doubles and prevailed over Grace Carpenter and Emily Hill, 8-3, before junior Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and senior Hannah Middleton (Pawcatuck, Conn.) teamed up at No. 2 doubles and fell 8-5 to Elise Hogan and Lily Tria. Rounding out doubles for the Lyons at No. 3, senior Nikki Cheng (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first-year Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez (Cancun, Mexico) dropped an 8-5 decision to Amira Eid and Amelia Campanella.
Chai defeated Hill at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, before Kiran Cavale fell to Carpenter, 6-3, 6-2, in the second slot. Aamoum took the victory over Hogan, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, followed by Middleton claiming the win over Eid, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Slotted in the fifth slot, Cheng fell to Campanella, 6-4, 6-2, followed by Chisato Kimura (Daito, Japan) at No. 6 suffering a 6-4, 6-4 setback to Tria.
