Peabody & Aamoum Lead Tennis into Championship

SOUTH HADLEY/NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team once again saw two duos in action on Saturday, competing on day two of the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament. The event, which is being hosted at both MHC and Smith College, saw the Lyons duo in the B draw advance into Sunday's championship final.

Junior Catherine Peabody and rookie Anissa Aamoum took to the court on Saturday morning at MHC to compete in the B draw main semifinals. The pair took on the number one ranked team in the draw from Endicott, squaring off against Barnett, Fitzgibbons and Hartman. In the opening doubles action, Peabody and Aamoum bested the Gulls pair of Barnett and Fitzgibbons by an 8-3 margin. Heading into singles, Peabody bested Hartman with a 6-1, 6-2 decision, while Aamoum earned a hard-fought, 4-6, 6-1 (10-2) victory over Fitzgibbons to take the 3-0 team win.

The Lyons pair advances into the B draw main championship on Sunday against Colby's Venditti and Nesbit. That match will begin at 9am and will be held at Smith College.

Mount Holyoke also saw its A draw team of senior Ayame Yazawa and junior Ching-Ching Huang play in the consolation semifinals against Babson's Merz and Madison, who opened with an 8-3 win over the Lyons. Yazawa then shouldered a tough 8-3 defeat at the hands of Merz, while Madison bested Huang, 8-1 to eliminate the MHC duo.

As a reminder, the Lyons duo of Peabody and Aamoum will return to the court to play in the B draw main championship on Sunday at 9am. That match will be played at Smith College.
