ORLANDO, Fla. – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team played its second game in Orlando, shouldering a 6-3 loss to the University of Texas-Tyler on Wednesday. With the win, UT-Tyler improves to 4-4 overall, while the Lyons slip to 3-6.

After solid performances from Patriot's sophomore Molly Kinkle (Montgomery, Texas/Blinn College) and first year Caitlyn Cox (Tyler, Texas/Home School) at sixth and fourth singles, UT-Tyler jumped out to a 2-0 match lead.

Down two games, sophomore Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding HS) had a strong performance at number three singles. Peabody earned the Lyons only singles win, defeating sophomore Emily Danielson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison HS) 6-2 in the first set before Danielson was forced to retire in the second. After two more wins for the Patriots, senior Alexis Arrieta (Georgetown, Texas/Midwestern State) sealed the match victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup to make it 5-1 heading into doubles action.

UT-Tyler continued its strong play as the duo of Arrieta and junior Alexandra McKissick (Houston, Texas/Atascocita) earned an 8-3 win at number one doubles. MHC juniors Clara Wang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Joy Maran (Sante Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep) stopped the Patriots momentum as they powered themselves to an 8-6 victory to cut the deficit to 6-2 at third doubles. The final match of the day saw an inspired performance from Peabody and first year Anya Gerasimova (Salem, Ore/West Salem), who battled to a 9-7 win over junior Savannah Seely (North Richland Hills/Richland HS) and sophomore Alaska Raper (Lindale, Texas/Lindale HS) to conclude the match at 6-3.

The Patriots will be back in action later today to face Colby-Sawyer College at 3pm, while Mount Holyoke will matchup against Haverford College tomorrow at 10:30am.
