Tennis Suffers NEWMAC Loss at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lyons tennis team shouldered a tough NEWMAC loss at MIT on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers move to 4-0 (4-0 NEWMAC), while the Lyons slip to 4-2 (2-2 NEWMAC).

MIT opened with a dominating effort in doubles. At the first flight, juniors Dora Tzeng and Sonya Das notched an 8-0 win over Lyons sophomore Ayame Yazawa and first year Ching-Ching Huang. The second flight match-up saw MIT first years Lara Rakocevic and Sharlene Song best MHC senior captain Alexa Colas and first year Catherine Peabody, 8-1.

Rounding out the doubles from the third flight was junior Rena Liu and first year Serena Le, who posted an 8-1 win over Lyons' senior captain Amy Chen and sophomore Clara Wang.

In singles action, Tzeng defeated Yazawa at one by a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) margin. The second flight saw Das post a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Huang, while at three, Rakocevic defeated MHC junior Ishita Tibrewal, 6-0, 6-0.

At four, Le bested Peabody, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-1), while Liu notched a 6-4, 6-2 win against MHC sophomore Madison Rosen at five. First year Effie Jia grabbed the victory at six with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Chen.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Smith for a 5pm match.
