TENNIS POSTS 9-0 VICTORY OVER SIMMONS

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - A decisive sweep in doubles and singles saw the Mount Holyoke College tennis team record a 9-0 win over Simmons College.

The Lyons opened the doubles action with a solid 8-0 win in the first flight as sophomore Ayame Yazawa (Tokyo, Japan/St. Johnsbury Academy (Vt.) and first year Ching-Ching Huang (Lukang Township, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal First Girls' HS) bested the Sharks first year Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and junior Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin).

In the second flight, Lyons junior Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India/Modern School for Girls) and first year Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding HS) edged out first years Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory) and Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) by an 8-5 margin.

Rounding out the third flight were MHC senior captains Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) and Alexa Colas (Teaneck, N.J./The Dwight-Englewood School), who defeated junior Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) and sophomore Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine/South Kingstown), 8-3.

In singles action, Yazawa was victorious in the first flight against Schroedl, posting a 6-1, 6-0 score. Huang earned the Lyons another point from the second flight, with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Nguyen. Timbrewal bested Johnson in the third flight  by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.

Peabody grabbed a victory for the Lyons from the fourth flight with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Lakes. Madison Rosen earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over first year Mai Driesen (Fayetville, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) in the fifth flight. MHC's ninth point came in the sixth flight as Chen was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Matthews.

The Lyons continue their homestand next weekend when they welcome NEWMAC-rivals Emerson and Wellesley on Saturday (12pm) and Sunday (11am), respectively. Simmons is back on the court on Saturday, hosting Colby (4pm).
