Tennis Defeats Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 7-2

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico - A five-win effort in singles action helped propel the Mount Holyoke College tennis team to a 7-2 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Wednesday during the team's spring training trip. The Lyons improve to 9-7 with the victory.

Junior Margaux Holloschutz and first year Ishita Tibrewal picked up a first doubles win, defeating the Bayamon duo of Starsea Arroyo and Ashley Rivera by an 8-2 margin. Sophomores Alexa Colas and Amy Chen also claimed victory from the two spot with an 8-6 win over Ivana Irrizavvy and Paola Dejesus.

In singles action, Mount Holyoke set the pace as Holloschutz defeated Lizardi by a 6-1, 6-4 margin in the first flight. Tibrewal was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Dejesus in the third position, while Colas defeated Rivera, 6-1, 6-1 from four.

Junior Michelle Cai then battled to a 6-3, 2-6, (10-7) win against Irrizavvy, while Bayamon's sixth singles player had to default due to injury, giving Chen the win.

The Lyons are next in action on March 28 when they host Connecticut College at 10:30am.
