NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior captain Samantha Nemivant won the 1-meter and the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team concluded day one of action at the 2019 Seven Sisters Championship in solid fashion on Saturday. The event, which is being hosted by Smith College, saw the Lyons post 287 points through the opening 13 events.
MHC was paced by a Seven Sisters Champion effort from Nemivant, who recorded 423.45 points for the 1-meter board victory. Additionally, it marked an NCAA 11-dive qualifying mark and was her first championship title. The Lyons saw outstanding success in the event as sophomore Katie Kolozsvari was the runner-up with a score of 386.35 points, while rookie Kathryn Murphy was third overall with a score of 379.70 points.
In the opening session on Saturday morning, the Lyons 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomores Naomi Brown, Caitlyn Richmond, Jacqueline Park and Tamara Mukulu combined to earn fifth overall. They finished in a time of 1:46.33. Sophomore Ashton Bliss was next in the water, competing in the 500-yard free. She touched the wall ninth with a mark of 5:35.56. Park then went on to take 11th in the 200-yard individual medley - finishing in 2:24.48. Mukulu was next up in the 50-yard free, taking ninth with a time of 26.15.
The session concluded with the 400-yard medley relay as Richmond, rookie Emma Sullivan, Mukulu and sophomore Courtney Dunham placed seventh with a time of 4:37.29.
Following the 1-meter event sweep by the Lyons, Session II got underway. The Lyons saw the foursome of Park, Richmond, Brown and Mukulu earn fifth overall with a time of 1:59.90. Bliss returned in the 400-yard IM, touching seventh overall with a time of 5:00.90. In the 100-yard butterfly, Mukulu was eighth with a time of 1:03.74, while the 100-yard backstroke saw Park earn 10th with a time of 1:04.74. The action rounded out for the day in the 800-yard free relay as rookie Adrienne Corr, sophomore Riley Hicks, Brown and Bliss combined to finish sixth overall with a mark of 8:56.78.
Following day one of action, Wellesley leads the field with 954.5 points. Vassar is currently second with a score of 678.5 points, followed by the host Pioneers (296), MHC (287) and Bryn Mawr (222).
