Swimming & Diving Edged in Tri-Meet Action

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - It was a busy day of action at the MHC Natatorium as the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team hosted Vassar and Trinity Colleges in tri-meet action on Saturday. The Bantams women earned a 162.50-133.50 win over the Brewers, adding a 209-87 win against the homestanding Lyons. Vassar's women also bested MHC with a 186-108 win. On the men's side, Trinity notched a 166-114 victory over the Brewers.

The Lyons saw a number of solid efforts on the day, beginning with the 200-yard medley relay as the sophomore foursome of Jacqueline Park, Caitlyn Richmond, Naomi Brown and Tamara Mukulu placed fourth with a time of 1:59.18. Next up was the gruelling 1,000-yard freestyle, which saw sophomore Ashton Bliss finish third overall in a time of 11:43.19. Junior Allyn Dunlap was sixth in the event with a mark of 12:47.22.

Park went on to take sixth in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:09.65, while sophomore Riley Hicks and rookie Adrienne Corr were eighth (2:12.15) and ninth (2:13.59), respectively. In the 100-yard backstroke, Richmond earned sixth with a time of 1:10.52, while the 100-yard breaststroke was paced by rookies Emma Sullivan and Gigi Picard as they earned fifth (1:19.90) and sixth (1:20.73). Brown went on to take fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:28.67 and Mukulu earned second overall in the 50-yard free. She boasted a time of 26.07.

In the 1-meter diving event, junior captain Samantha Nemivant was second with a score of 230.45 points, while sophomore Katie Kolozsvari and rookie Kathryn Murphy were third (224.40) and fourth (196.20), respectively.

Mukulu posted fourth overall in the 100-free, touching the wall in a time of 58.11, while Hicks was eighth with a mark of 1:01.72. The 200-back saw Park take second overall, earning a time of 2:20.44, while Corr was fifth in the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:46.71. In the 500-yard free, Bliss, junior Natalie Burkett and senior captain Delany Berry were fifth (5:51.15), sixth (6:00.54) and seventh (6:09.63), respectively.

Brown and Hicks paced the effort in the 100-yard fly, taking eighth (1:11.00) and ninth (1:14.23), respectively, while in the 200-yard individual medley, Corr was fifth with a time of 2:28.73. The 3-meter diving event saw Nemivant earn top honors, finishing with a score of 261.10 points. Kolozsvari was third with 224.60 points, followed by Murphy in fourth with 178.85 points.

Action concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay as the group of Bliss, Park, sophomore Courtney Dunham and Mukulu earned fourth with a time of 3:58.06.

The Mount Holyoke and Vassar women both return to action next Saturday, travelling to Smith College to participate in the 2019 Seven Sisters Championship. Action at the meet runs through Sunday. Both Trinity squads are back in the pool on Saturday as well in a 1pm dual meet at Clark.
