Swimming & Diving Splits in Tri-Match Action at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. - It was a tri-match split for the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team on Thursday afternoon as they competed at Wheaton. MHC bested Clark University, 140-99, but fell 166-73 to the host Lyons.

Action opened with the 400-yard medley relay as sophomore Jacqueline Park, senior Bri Groves, and sophomores Naomi Brown and Tamara Mukulu posted third with a time of 4:21.57. In the 1000-yard freestyle, junior Natalie Burkett touched the wall fifth with a time of 12:19.01, while in the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Ashton Bliss was sixth with a time of 2:12.60. Rookie Adrienne Corr was close behind in eighth with a time of 2:14.91.

Mukulu took fifth in the 50-yard free with a time of 26.41, while sophomores Caitlyn Richmond and Laraiba Seibou earned seventh (27.35) and eighth (28.58), respectively. The 200-yard individual medley saw Groves earn fourth with a time of 2:26.90, while Park was fifth; touching the wall in 2:28.76.

1-meter diving action saw junior captain Samantha Nemivant earn the win, recording a score of 247.80 points. Sophomore Katie Kolozsvari was third with a score of 218.80, while rookie Kathryn Murphy earned fourth with a mark of 168.70 points.

Bliss posted fourth in the 200-yard butterfly, touching with a time of 2:29.19, while Mukulu battled to sixth in the 100-yard free with a time of 1:00.31. Burkett was seventh with a time of 1:04.39 and rookie Emma Sullivan posted eighth with a time of 1:05.01.

Senior captain Delany Berry led three straight in the 200-yard backstroke, taking sixth overall with a time of 2:37.39. Sophomore Courtney Dunham followed in seventh with a mark of 2:41.94, while senior Monika Sharma was eighth with a time of 2:56.81.

Bliss and Corr then took fifth (5:51.00) and sixth (5:54.09), respectively in the 500-yard free. In the 3-meter diving event, Nemivant recorded a personal-best and NCAA Qualifying mark of 273.50 points to win. Kolozsvari was third with a score of 223.25, while Murphy was fourth with 174.25 points.

Groves was then fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:40.48, while the Lyons 400-yard free relay team of Park, Hicks, Corr and Brown earned the win with a time of 4:08.65.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday at 1pm when it hosts tri-match action against Vassar College and Trinity College at the MHC Natatorium.
